What ever you plan for the day will always carry the unknown element(s), and sometimes it's bordering with tragedy.
Wednesday night was planned to start with a romantic dinner and champagne was to be served. Per is used to open a bottle of champagne, in fact it's a quite frequent practice when I'm around. Something went terribly wrong on that evening: the cork popped out unexpectedly, hitting Per's right eye, full blast.
We rushed to the ER where, after long hours of waiting, the doctor examined his eye and declared that he could see nothing serious, aside from a deep cut on the eyelid. But since Per was experiencing a dark spot in his vision, he should see a specialist next day if that spot got larger.
Next morning, Per's eye was terribly swollen, red and unfortunately the 'spot' was larger, covering the whole vision. In fact he couldn't see anything with his right eye, which was so sore that he couldn't even keep it opened.
I'll skip the long hours of waiting in the hospital on that morning. The fear that Per might totally and permanently lose the vision was something unbearable to deal with. We finally got to see the specialist, who after several tests with the right equipment, diagnosed the presence of an internal bleeding and a perforated retina, which allowed fluid to penetrate and if not treated, the retina could just detached itself...
So laser surgery was performed immediately.
Current situation: surgery was successful but vision will still be obstructed for several months.
Per is on sick leave for the next couple of weeks, during which reading, watching TV or using the PC is strictly forbidden. Three specific eye drops medecine is applied to his eye, on regular hours.
I know that those who watch him will understand his absence from dA for the needed recovery time. I will not go through the details of my personal anguish and depair in witnessing my man's pain. Please drop by his page and give him the much needed support and love.
Thank you and take care, all.
