Update

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 27, 2008, 1:15 PM
It's now 21:38 Northern Europe time.

Per is alone in the hospital where he was admitted this afternoon.
Tomorrow morning he'll undergo surgery on his eye. The examination this morning showed that the retina is damaged and he might lose the use of that eye if not treated by traditional surgery.

I was not allowed to spend the night by his side but will be there as soon as the visiting hour begins, at around 07:00.

Need your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you and take care...

Just to inform you that Per's operation went fine. The surgeon gave us a very positive and encouraging prognosis. Hopefully, he will be discharged tomorrow. Then the recovery time begings and we are all hoping for the best result.

I conveyed your well wishes and love to Per this morning as I arrived at the hospital on time to assist at the pre-surgery examination done by a team of surgeons who were scrutinizing Per's eye to pin point the exact location of the perforation and the bending of the retina.

Please rest assured that we are extremely grateful and touched by your beautiful messages. It means so so much to us!!!

Be well and do take care.

Hello friends!

Update

Thank you so much to all of you who came to give love, care and support to Per and myself upon the news of his eye accident.

Per is better today, although he still is not able to read. Daylight or any strong light for that matter continues to bring much discomfort and pressure to his eye, but his vision has slightly improved, in general.

Much of Per's convalescence time is spent indoors as you can imagine, but we do take occasional walks when the light is less harsh. And as you might have noticed, sometimes he "cheats" and goes shortly online! :giggle: Other than that, I'm sure anyone can challenge Per to a quiz on the current Olympic Games, especially in the events where Denmark participates! ;-)

Take care guys! :heart::hug:

Per's eye

Difficult times

What ever you plan for the day will always carry the unknown element(s), and sometimes it's bordering with tragedy.

Wednesday night was planned to start with a romantic dinner and champagne was to be served. Per is used to open a bottle of champagne, in fact it's a quite frequent practice when I'm around. Something went terribly wrong on that evening: the cork popped out unexpectedly, hitting Per's right eye, full blast.

We rushed to the ER where, after long hours of waiting, the doctor examined his eye and declared that he could see nothing serious, aside from a deep cut on the eyelid. But since Per was experiencing a dark spot in his vision, he should see a specialist next day if that spot got larger.

Next morning, Per's eye was terribly swollen, red and unfortunately the 'spot' was larger, covering the whole vision. In fact he couldn't see anything with his right eye, which was so sore that he couldn't even keep it opened.

I'll skip the long hours of waiting in the hospital on that morning. The fear that Per might totally and permanently lose the vision was something unbearable to deal with. We finally got to see the specialist, who after several tests with the right equipment, diagnosed the presence of an internal bleeding and a perforated retina, which allowed fluid to penetrate and if not treated, the retina could just detached itself...

So laser surgery was performed immediately.

Current situation: surgery was successful but vision will still be obstructed for several months.

Per is on sick leave for the next couple of weeks, during which reading, watching TV or using the PC is strictly forbidden. Three specific eye drops medecine is applied to his eye, on regular hours.

I know that those who watch him will understand his absence from dA for the needed recovery time. I will not go through the details of my personal anguish and depair in witnessing my man's pain. Please drop by his page and give him the much needed support and love.

Thank you and take care, all.
